24-07-2010 Winter Race Results

18 Riders saddled up for the Saturdays Winter race. Some new and challenging sections have been added to Johns track that surely tested a few riders. With a little rain in the middle of the event just to make life a little harder on the bike a group of 14 riders come home strong with 4 riders DNF'd - myself included (ah well next time!!! :(.

25 riders turned up on a damp track (wet in places) after 11mm rain on Saturday to race a graded race. The A grade did 5 laps with Russell Nankervis dominating from the gun and not headed the whole race, B grade 4 laps was dominated by his brother Tasman and Chris Hamilton with Mick Floyd and Issac Buckle fighting out the C grade.

What a great way to spend a June Sunday morning – rediscovering the trails on Mt Lofty near Redesdale.

25 riders headed off ready for the challenges the old 24 hour track had in store – and challenges there were, not the least of which was finding the actual track! Parts of the Mt Lofty Park had been burnt in the Black Saturday fire and much of the single track was hidden by bushy re-growth and littered with fallen branches.

Plenty of opportunity for Mary to practise lifting the back wheel – thanks for the coaching, Toby!

There was a fair amount of “bush bashing”, sticks through the spokes and damaged derailers but we were rewarded with some great flowing single track in the unburnt areas and an entertaining “mad downhill”!

We had a really enjoyable morning, great to have so many turn out – looking forward to exploring more new areas on our next ride.

Here are the summer series points for the 09/10 summer series.

There are a number of people that can take out the top spot this week and to make it even more of a challenge its a double points race. so instead of getting 40 points for the #1 spot it will be 80.

Note: We have removed 3 races from the system due timin malfunctions and no one received points for these.

Last Race of the Summer Series & BBQ

The club will be hosting the last race of the summer series this coming tuesday (30th of March). Series points will be available on the website prior the weekend - which will make an interesting race as there upto 6 riders in contention for top honours.

Following the race the club will be putting on a BBQ for all to enjoy with snags and soft drinks provided, B.Y.O. alcohol.

Social Ride report Castlemaine

Sunday February 21^st
Sunday 25 riders of varying abilities and skills (novice to experienced) met at Macca's in KF, after sorting out the cars and maps for directions on where we are to met, we then travelled to Castlemaine in a convoy. "Fast" Gaz after finishing the 100km Otway the day before, turned up to "stretch the legs with a few hill sprints"
Meeting up at rail roads track we split into two groups, after a few false starts and waiting for one member "Ash" who rode his roady from Bendigo, we set off to find the what was promised to be (by Mary and Toby) an exciting ride. One of our members went back to the cars due to illness, but the rest "soldiered" on into the "wilderness"! After 2 km of fire roads we found the single tracks that Mary and Toby had marked out the previous week. 20km of native forrest single trail, with some short steep climbs, fast single trail creek descents, rock gardens and various other terrains we met back at the start point, with the 2nd group doing a combination of fire road and single trail, with both groups finishing at the same time.
Then we went our various ways home some into Castlemaine to experience the delights of the local cafes others home to family chores others to Melbourne and Geelong.
Well done to Mary and Peter for the day and for a well organised event.

Congratulations to Jo Wall who took out the win at the 2nd rd of the National Series in Elie Women, Josh Fleming 1st in Vets men, Mary Boromeo 2nd Supermasters women and the Garry Lewis 2nd in Supermaster men. Well done to all the club members who participated in various categories. They experienced a rather technical track that rivalled the Bendigo "rocks". For some good action and podium shots see here.

2010 National XC Championships Adelaide

January 2010 saw the running of the 2010 SRAM MTB National XC Championships in Adelaide. A number of Bendigo riders attended the event and were successful. Congratuations to all that completed. Those who finished on the podium include: Jo Wall 4th in the Elite Womens, Ash Harvey 2nd Sport men, Garry Lewis 3rd Supermasters men and Allan Leslie 3rd Sport men. Peta Mullens flatted 2km into her last lap while coming 2nd in under 23's.

The Bendigo Club will be running the Bendigo 6 & 3hr Enduro will be held on Sunday 23rd May and the Golden Triangle Epic to be run on Sunday 5th September 2010. More details will be put up as they become available.

February 7th Rd 3 State XC Series

The Bgo club will be running the 3rd Rd of the State XC Series on the 7th February at Brians/Scottys track, Heritage Rd Sedgwick.
A GPS of the track will be put up soon.
Racing starts for all categories at 10.30am rego from
Practice on Saturday 6th 3.00 - 7.00pm and Sunday 7.00 - 9.30am.
Registration 8.00am - 9.30am on the Sunday.
As it is a new track with some challenging sections, I would suggest all riders arrive in time to do a practice lap.
$40 Entry for adults $20 for juniors (with a MTBA licence or $15 day licence).

We are going to Wombat Forest at Woodend - these tracks will provide enjoyment for all levels of mountain bike riders.

If you want to share a bbq lunch you need email or phone or tell Mary so she knows how many snags to buy - no RSVP , no food

The first rd of the Victorian XC series will be held at the Cavagna’s Rd track Sedgwick (where the recent Australian Marathon Championships were held) the event will be run by the Bendigo MTB club. The track will be 6.8km long and include some new sections and the “famous” berms.

The MTB Bendigo club will once again run the Summer 09/10 Summer series.

This year we have a mix of races incuding the usual handicap race, short course and also the introduction of a handicapped time trial to coincide with our final race.
