2010 Golden Triangle Epic

RIDER FEEDBACK

Pre event (rego, advertising, directions, website, email, etc)

Positives I found were

·         Awesome location, very scenic and good clear directions

·         directions, pre-event info on the website (course info, profile, etc), camping availability

·         Seemed more professional this year with the tents & organisation.  Fantastic having the plasmas & instant feedback of position. Great to have the masseurs

·         Was good, well marked, plenty of info

·         Great course,  great volunteers, plenty of course markings, professional presentations. well organised event

·         smooth, efficient, and friendly easy to find.website clear.emails kept me informed

·         well organised and set out-a pleasure to ride once again

  • helpful when needed changes made to rego

·         Easy to follow directions, helpful with rotorburn.net forum thread as I was able to ask questions which were promptly answered

·         The venue was fantastic. Track really challenging. I think more information needs to be provided for interstate/non-locals on track conditions and track type.. i.e. schale surface, sandy, clay etc... just to help with tyre selection etc...

·         Rego was easy, Direction good. Website ok.

·         All good and easy to understand.  The final email with all the details had everything needed.  I like the idea of having a competitor list available.

·         Quick to register, directions were clear. MTBA website is easy to use.

·         Officials were helpful, friendly and brilliant. Please thank the official at the second check point for insisting on removing the blood from my leg! Email rider pack was good, rego fine but a little out of the way...Check Point food and water was excellent - the best I have seen for a VERY long time! Well done - thank you!

·          The directions to the event did not match with our observations. The turn off to sutton grange road did not appear to be marked on the bypass.

·         Directions to the event were good. It is very helpful to have signs off the main roads to assist people that are not very familiar with the area.

·          Website was also good. It had details of the event well in advance and I also liked the countdown timer to the actual event as it motivates you to go and do some training.

·         Everything was accessible via all forms of correspondence, including making phone calls at the last minute.

·         Good pricing for juniors and good to have a T-Shirt and SRAM water bottle in the rego bag.

·         Changing event category was easy.

·         Information was delivered on Public forum (Rotorburn.com).

·         Payment by credit card was reasonably straightforward. Website seemed a bit amateurish; various bits of information were only added late in the piece.

·         fabulous single track after checkpoint 2 - I just loved it! water race was good too - nice to clock up quite a few kms early one, esp after the slog in the farm section.

·         The last section was fun!!! Sign posting was also good.

Improvement could be

·         Registration back at venue. Why Braidies when it seems they weren't even a sponsor?

·         I always have trouble finding the turn off on the Calder coming from Melbourne . Perhaps let us know what the big green sign is that we need to look out for (there's nothing on the hwy that says Sutton Grange.). I missed the turn off this year & went through to Bendigo.

·         Info on website different to race booklet.

·         Greater number of distance signposts (maybe every 10km)

·         -More information about aid stations sooner before the event making rego cut off time on sat a bit later. its hard to get there before 7pm when you work Saturday then drive for a good couple of hours

  • not clear about categories on website – no info I could find
  •    Better updating on the website.

·         Actually make the course directions understandable! . Everyone I know that did the event got lost, everyone I spoke to made the same comment, course needs to be markered better.

·         Could update website, and maybe more information emails building up to event

·         Registration should either be in Bendigo or at the track

·         I think the event could be improved if registration was made available on the day of the event. People like myself who live approx 1.5 hours from Bendigo usually travel on the day of the event. Unless you have someone who can pick up your rego pack the day before, it would mean a three hour drive just to pick up your race number??? Also, I know other events that post out rego details prior to the event, which could be a possibility for future events.

·         Give good check point directions, minor issue but it was abit of a challenge for helpers to find.

·         The same amount of effort that was put into the 105km should have been put into the 50km & 25km event. There was no clear map for the 50 & 25 with CPs. There was no course profile for them either. The 50km course was only 42km long.

·          Slicker website. More information earlier. At the rego site, I was confused at one point where I think it presumed I was an MTBA member. The entry for T-shirt should be a mandatory field, this would have made your bob (presumably) easier. I was comfortable registering on the Saturday but a lot of people weren't. It then looked unprofessional changing the rules so that one could register on the Sunday morning.

·         I didn't like the farm section, but see why it was included.

The Track

Positives I found were

·         awesome track that showcases Bendigo terrain

·         Great flowing Single track

·         Some nice flowing single track. Good terrain variations

·         Lots of arrows, ample overtaking space, varied terrain, great distance (in terms of finishing times), interesting single-track. lead motorbike was a great idea, also assisted road crossings with marshals and police.

·         All good, but the 50km was more like 43km  - I'm not complaining though.

·         Lots of good singletrack, broken by good shorter fireroads for recovery. Way better than previous years. Well marked.

·         Track markings were nice and clear. Contribution of organisers/volunteers etc. The water and fruit was a welcome relief.

·         Fire trail at start was good to sort all and sundry out.

·         Good mix of technical and easy. Good selection of track to start, broke up group nicely.

·         Awesome track – had to keep your wits about you, but fast enough to really roost it too.  I even got some air on the downhills, which as anyone who has seen me ride knows is a very rare thing indeed.  Not too technical.  The climbs were good – hard but not stupid hard.  The farm section was nice – some more consolidated track would be good, but it’s ‘new’ track so the poor condition of it makes sense.  Apparently the views were breathtaking but I didn’t stop and smell the roses.  The high percentage of  single track was a definite feature of this race.  Thank you.

·         Marshals and volunteers were very helpful

·         -Track was well sign posted

·         -Aid stations were good

·         -Overall more formal and organised than I am used too

·         Scotty track …real mountain biking.

·         Scottys track being near the start and not the end

·         Nice flowing single track throughout the day.

·         Your own great track near the finish

·         Fireroad links next to the aqueducts where rough enough to justify a dually.

·         The right balance between single track, fireroad, climbing and tech. Very little bitumen.

·         all the single track great and mixed with some good fire road the most fun ive had on my bike for a long time BRILLIANT TRACK

·         Last 20kms were brilliant
